Blacktopia:  Hi Ms. Crenshaw! How’s life treating you these days? Are you excited to dive into this conversation?

SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  Took a long time to adjust just haven't been myself in a long time. Life has been investing. Investing into my platform and my writing career. Investing into my children. Investing financially.

Blacktopia:  Your pen name, SoSo Bright Crenshaw, is intriguing! What’s the story behind it, and what does it symbolize to you?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  At first it was just So Bright I use it as my signature on my messages. Then a "used to be" friend gave me the idea to say SoSo Bright. I was thinking about my skin tone that's were the name came from. Ha 

Blacktopia:  Hah!  We thought the pen name was referring to your intelligence, saying that you were a "bright" person.  😁  I guess it could be used in that way too.  When did poetry become your passion, and was there a pivotal moment that sparked your journey as a poet?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  Poetry became more of a passion when I just kept on writing. Always allowing the Holy Spirit to give me insight on new creative ideas of my work.

Blacktopia:  How would you define your unique voice as a poetess? What sets your writing style apart?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  To be a voice of many people who are just afraid to speak. My writing style is ministry and storytelling. I love to dig deep in the root.

Blacktopia:  Your work touches on many themes. Can you give us a glimpse into the topics you’re most passionate about exploring in your poetry?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  Matrimony. Inspirational. Romance.

Blacktopia:  Do you have any books, collections, or exciting projects you’d like to share with our readers?
So Bright Crenshaw: I have a commercial of my brand TDWC (To Death With Cancer) regarding the cancer poem I wrote 7 years ago.  Planning on making the commercial to get on Networks.

Blacktopia:  Have you thought about branching out from poetry? Maybe diving into fiction, nonfiction, or even screenwriting?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  No ! Screenwriting would be nice.

Blacktopia:  Beyond your poetry, what should we know about the person behind the words? What makes SoSo Bright shine?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  Wisdom. Virtue. Fierce. Warrior.

Blacktopia:  Where do you call home now, and where does your story begin? What’s your journey been like?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  Home for me is having peace with Christ.  The story begins from Alabama, to Detroit, and Georgia. I stayed in 3 different states.  That journey had so much quotes and poetry

Blacktopia:  What are some hobbies or interests that inspire you outside of your writing?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw: I love to cook and bake, do treats.
Finding ways to style my daughter's hair.
Open mic networking with other businesses.

Blacktopia:  You’re a familiar face in the EFABU Talk Show community with Lil’ T3rry and Southside Mike. What draws you to the show, and why do you love it?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  The topics for the community on how society should get more involved. Resolving solutions to have their voice being heard. Of course, me I'm the fun part I'm glad it's a place to laugh and speak your mind. It's therapy.

Blacktopia:  In your opinion, what’s the magic ingredient that makes the EFABU Talk Show stand out?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw: Brotherhood, the men have their own different perspectives and it's funny.

Blacktopia:  What topics or discussions on The EFABU Talk Show have left a lasting impression on you?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  Can't remember the topics I said so much on the show I just don't know.

Blacktopia:  Are there any themes or topics you’d love to see The EFABU Talk Show tackle in the future?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  Yes! How to invest into your children.  Teaching the youth to remain virtuous taking full control of their welfare.

Blacktopia:  Speaking of the future, what does 2025 hold for you? Are there any exciting plans or dreams you’re bringing to life?
SoSo Bright Crenshaw:  Most definitely can't speak on it right now. Just have to watch and see. Everything is progressing.

In the heart of Newark, New Jersey, where resilience and ambition are woven into the fabric of its people, a young girl named Veronica Daughety grew up wrestling with the weight of the world—both metaphorically and physically. Today, Pastor Veronica Daughety stands as an extraordinary testament to faith, perseverance, and the power of self-love. Her story is one of remarkable transformation, shedding not only physical pounds but also the emotional shackles that bound her spirit.

A Journey Born of Struggle

“As a child growing up into my young adult years, I suffered greatly from obesity. Low self-esteem, depression, loneliness, and anger became my friends growing up, all because I saw myself as undesirable, FAT, AND UGLY,” Pastor Veronica candidly shares. Her early years were marked by a painful struggle with body image, compounded by societal perceptions and personal insecurities. She knows firsthand how difficult it is to navigate the world as a morbidly obese young person. Yet, amidst these challenges, she began a journey of self-discovery and redemption that would later inspire countless others.

A Call to Change: From Pain to Purpose

By 2014, Veronica’s health struggles—diabetes, high blood pressure, neuropathy, and high cholesterol—had taken a toll not just on her body but also on her mental well-being. Depression and anxiety became constant companions. It was during this period of despair that she realized her journey to healing had to begin with a decision: a commitment to prioritize her health.

Tipping the scales at 365 pounds, Veronica could be found at Planet Fitness or Fitness Connection in the early hours of the morning, determined to reclaim her life. What started as a personal quest soon evolved into a divine mission. In 2018, she heard the voice of God urging her to create a ministry that blended physical fitness and spiritual well-being. Thus, Shack<LESS Physical & Spiritual Fitness Ministry Inc. was born.

Shack<LESS: Breaking Free from Bondage

For ten years, the name “Shack<LESS” resonated deeply with Veronica as she sought to minister to the incarcerated. However, God’s plan revealed that the shackles she was called to break were those of unhealthy habits, self-doubt, and spiritual disconnect. Drawing inspiration from 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, she reminded herself and others that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and should be honored as such.

Through Shack<LESS, Pastor Veronica launched programs like PraiserSize and the Shack<LESS ONE WEEK NO SWEETS social media platform, which combine physical fitness with spiritual empowerment. Her ministry reaches beyond the gym to help others find freedom in their faith and health.

Triumph Over Adversity

By December 2023, Veronica faced another challenge: her weight had returned to 303 pounds. Determined to overcome, she made the life-altering decision to undergo weight loss surgery in February 2024. At 58 years old, she emerged victorious, shedding over 100 pounds and standing at 185 pounds today. Her testimony is a powerful reminder that with God, nothing is impossible.

“I am beautiful. I am the image of the Creator, which is absolutely magnificent,” Pastor Veronica declares with unwavering confidence.

A proud graduate of Howard University (Class of 1988) with a B.A. in Mass Communications and a master’s degree in Business Management from Liberty University, Pastor Veronica is no stranger to excellence.
